How To Prepare Yourself for the Industry

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

As many of you know, I have recently just started film school at Full Sail University. I realize that being a film student was no joke, I didn't have any free time. When you first step on foot at any college sometimes you feel like an outsider. But at Full Sail that's a different story, you have everyone competing to see what they can do after they finish College. I have attached a scene from my first ever film that I have directed. I noticed that being a director and producer is hard work especially if you're doing it at the same time. So today's topic is how do you prepare yourself for the industry. If you are a college student, you should begin making connections with different people across the world. Just like Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn, and even Facebook. When you're trying to do your research for different companies, make sure when you look at the areas, where they are trying to grow. For instance, make more than one demo reel but make each one different and unique in its own way. Also if your school has guest speakers each month that's in the industry. Try to answer questions that can be helpful for you to grow. Like for instance, a month ago we have a speaker come to the school name Devan Renea, she is currently working with Warner Bros. Entertainment. As a Creative Development Coordinator. When she started talking to the people in the room about how the industry works and how we have to put ourselves out there in a different way to show how passionate we are about. What we are trying to do in life. So when you have different speakers that come to the speaker to you. Take the opportunity and just be yourself.
